Mentors for At-Risk Students

Mentors are recruited to work with at-risk high school students assigned to a school’s graduation coach.   Mentors are community volunteers recruited and trained through Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Upstate.  Mentors provide an additional adult role model for these students offering support, friendship, guidance and leadership.  Tutoring may also be provided.  Mentors commit to meeting with the student at least twice a month for the duration of the school year and the following summer. Activities engaged in by the student and mentor include school-related activities and those outside of school.  Each match is monitored by Big Brothers Big Sisters.

2007-08:  Implemented at two high schools, Berea and Greenville high schools.
